As a family business with core values based around Partnerships, Communities and Legacy, Scarborough Group has established a strong commitment to supporting societal causes. One of its notable partnerships is with LandAid, a charity dedicated to ending youth homelessness in the UK.
Every day of every year, thousands of young people in the UK find themselves homeless. Many are forced to sleep in overcrowded hostels, on the sofas of people they barely know, or worse still, on the streets.
LandAid brings together businesses and individuals from across the property industry to support charities delivering life-changing projects for young people who are or have been homeless, or who are at risk of homelessness by distributing grants focusing on capital projects for secure housing. These projects offer comprehensive services, including education, mental health support and life skills training, aiding young individuals in rebuilding their lives.
Since its collaboration, Scarborough Group has made significant strides in fundraising, awareness and community engagement for LandAid.
To date, the Group has raised in excess of £8,000 by participating in sponsored activities such as the SleepOut, a nationwide event during which around 1,300 property professionals from across the UK brave the elements to spend a night out in the open. Not only does the event raise valuable funds for LandAid, it also provides a glimpse into the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness, fostering empathy and understanding among participants and the broader community.
The Group is also an active participant in Steptober, a two-week-long competition where teams of four compete against hundreds of others across the property industry to log as many steps as possible while raising vital funds for LandAid.
Engagement and leadership
Scarborough Group also provides strategic and hands-on support to LandAid through the active engagement of key personnel, dedicating two Board Members and a Lead Ambassador across the North West and Yorkshire and the Humber regions. These team members have played crucial roles in driving initiatives and fostering connections within their respective communities.
Notably, Nicola Wallis, Residential Sales & Marketing Director based at Middlewood Locks, was nominated for Regional Board Member of the Year at the 2023 LandAid Awards, an annual celebration of the individuals, teams and organisations who make LandAid’s work possible.
In her role as Lead Ambassador, Rachel Vickers, Senior Commercial Manager based at Thorpe Park Leeds, has been an indispensable asset in organising and spearheading the Yorkshire Ambassador Quiz events during the UK Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREIIF), which collectively raised over £15,000 for LandAid.
