The Springs Leeds signs The Burger Priest as the ‘new normal’ shows positive trading

Oct 1, 2020

The Burger Priest, a successful and expanding restaurant chain, has chosen The Springs at Thorpe Park Leeds to open its 8th UK outlet.  The niche burger brand offers fully traceable Aberdeen Angus beef, complemented by milkshakes and ice cream.

The Burger Priest will move into a 1,800 sq ft unit adding to the existing food & beverage offer at The Springs, close to the ODEON Luxe Cinema.  The Landlord, Thorpe Park Developments Limited has agreed a new ten-year lease on a new lease structure which reacts to the changing economic climate that businesses face within the retail & leisure sectors and forges a more collaborative relationship between the parties.

The Burger Priest Leeds restaurant will be first in the North of England and is expected to generate around 20 new jobs when it opens next month.

The board of directors at The Burger Priest said, “We are thrilled to be opening another The Burger Priest at The Springs Leeds, a new, modern development which fits well with our expanding new brand. we believe our offer of high-quality food at affordable prices will be a great addition at The Springs giving an extra dimension to the dining experience for the wider Leeds community

“The provenance of our meat is fully traceable and everything on the menu is great quality. We think The Springs is the perfect venue for our next restaurant and we’re looking forward to opening as soon as possible!”

The announcement comes as all stores at The Springs resume normal trading following the Covid-19 restrictions period.  This is good news amidst concerns that the retail high street might not withstand a further blow with reduced footfall.

The ODEON Luxe Cinema re-opened last month with the ‘ODEON safer cinema’ experience which includes contactless buying, staggered show times, enhanced cleaning with guest sanitiser stations and reduced seating capacity.

Gino D’Acampo My Restaurant has also re-opened successfully with new safety measures including a refurbished outdoor terrace and the launch of Gino2Go takeaway service.  Award winning hair salon, Room 97 has launched post lockdown with great success and a waiting list for appointments.

The Springs Leeds is located at the heart of the award-winning mixed-use Thorpe Park Leeds business location, situated in North-East Leeds. The development is home to over 60 businesses and a community of nearly 5,000 workers.  Despite the fact that the business park current remains quiet with many business staff still continuing to working from home, The Springs Leeds has not lost out from this doorstep trade as trade has returned to pre-Covid levels.

Adam Varley at Scarborough Group International, the Joint Venture Partner developing Thorpe Park Leeds with Legal & General, said, “The footfall and trading performance for most of the businesses at The Springs has bounced back and, in some instances, trading performance is above the like-for-like period in the previous year.  Even though the majority of the 5,000 customers from our business park occupiers has temporarily reduced footfall, we are seeing new customers choose to visit and shop at The Springs because it offers a spacious, open air environment, with free car parking and with it’s varied line up of shops, cafes & restaurants the centre gives an alternative to the city centre venues.

“We are delighted to welcome The Burger Priest to The Springs and despite the uncertain times we are all living through we are really encouraged with the level of new interest that is been shown at the centre, and we expect to announce further positive news of new lettings in the weeks ahead.”

Thorpe Park Leeds is an established mixed-use business destination with nearly 1 million sq ft of existing built accommodation, including 600,000 sq ft of offices.  A unique Joint Venture partnership with Legal & General Capital in 2015 has allowed Thorpe Park Leeds to flourish and the next phases of development will revolutionise the East Leeds location, transforming the area into a new mixed use destination for people to live, work, play, eat and shop.
