How can Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park drive the post-Pandemic and post-Brexit economy of the Sheffield City Region and positively impact the Government’s levelling-up agenda?
On Tuesday 26 January at 12pm we will be participating in a virtual news conference announcing several major developments due to take place over the next two years, which will complete approximately £100m of investment in the first phase of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.
Announcements will also be made for the next phase of the Park, which will lay out plans for over 1 million sq ft of real estate development attracting around £150 million of investment.
Hosted by former Sports Minister Richard Caborn, the event will showcase a specially commissioned fly through of the iconic location – a major legacy project of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games – highlighting present and proposed developments.

Prof. Rob Copeland – Director, Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park
As the AWRC marks its first anniversary, Prof Copeland will share highlights of the work of the AWRC over the last 12-months and outline key areas of growth in supporting recovery from long-Covid and cancer care.
Mark Hitchman – Managing Director, Canon Medical Systems Europe
Mr Hitchman will announce investment in diagnostic imagery at a new, world class research hub for product development including AI (Artificial Intelligence) that promises to transform the speed and accuracy of diagnostics for the NHS. This hub will be based in the new Park Community Arena which will also become the home for Sheffield Sharks basketball team.
Kevin McCabe – Chairman of development company Scarborough Group International
Mr McCabe will announce details of a new masterplan for the area and the next stages of development at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, including completion of a community stadium which will become the new home for Sheffield Eagles Rugby League.
Prof. Paul Dimitri – Professor of Child Health and Director of Research and Innovation, Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
Prof Dimitri is driving the development of a ground-breaking National Centre for Child Health Technology at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park which will have a major impact on child health and the NHS across the country.
The speakers will be followed by an online question and answer session and closing remarks by the new Leader of Sheffield City Council, Councillor Bob Johnson.
Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is building on being one of the world’s most successful elite athlete training facilities delivering some of Team GB’s greatest athletes – including Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Nicola Adams OBE, Will Bayley MBE and Anthony Joshua OBE – to becoming a world class centre of applied Research and Development to improve the nation’s health and wellbeing.
